A new place has been added to the heart of picturesque Hont, combining tradition, nature, and a pleasant atmosphere. The Lišov Museum civic association has successfully renovated a house from 1887, which now serves as an information center and café.
The founder of the association, Jakub Dvorský, explains:
"This house will provide visitors with information about the Hont region, while also serving as a space for presenting natural building and traditional architecture. The small café, which was previously lacking, is also a great addition. We used original materials—clay, stone, and wood—in the reconstruction, and we also wanted to show that natural building has significance and a future."
The renovation was carried out with the help of local and foreign volunteers, students, and lecturers, and it also became an educational project.
The project was supported by the BBSK Development Agency with €10,000 through its membership contribution to OOCR Central Slovakia.
Ondrej Lunter, President of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region, emphasized that it is precisely such activities that bring life to rural areas:
"The representatives of the Lišov Museum association have managed to breathe new life into Lišov and attract visitors from abroad. This project is important not only for the village, but also for the entire region."
The Hont region is best known for its spa in Dudince, which has long provided the highest number of accommodations in the Banská Bystrica region. However, the aim of the project is to highlight other attractions in the region, from its natural and cultural heritage to interesting local activities.
"The Mask Gallery and the activities of the Lišov Museum expand the possibilities for spending time in the region. This creates a network of information points in Krupina, Dudince, and now also in Lišov, which will bring better services for visitors and increase interest in exploring this beautiful region."
The new information center is complemented by a cozy café offering high-quality coffee from a regional roaster. Visitors can enjoy a cup of good coffee in a pleasant environment surrounded by history and tradition, or sit outside and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside.
The café thus becomes not only a place to relax, but also a space for meetings, conversations, and inspiration for all who come to discover Hont.
